Major Don Erickson

The Division Topographical Engineer reports to the Division Chief of Staff, the Corps Topographical Engineer, and the Chief of the Topographical Bureau.
Major Erickson has served as Bureau Chief for the U.S. Corps of Topographical Engineers since 1997. The organization portrays the Corps from 1838 through 1863.
The Topographical Engineers are entrusted with the collection of topographical information and the preparation of campaign maps. To this end, the Division Topographical Engineer and his staff march at the head of the most advanced detachment, keeping a journal of the march.
Additionally, Major Erickson is charged with seizing all maps, records, etc. that can afford useful information about the topography and resources of the country; arranging for armed reconnaissance when indicated; questioning local inhabitants; and participating in the interrogation of prisoners.
Active in living history since 1986, Major Erickson is a principal of Bent, St. Vrain & Co., a living history organization portraying the Santa Fe trade, and is an active adult Scouter. A geologist, Major Erickson owns Image Exploration in Denver, Colorado.
